#summersnaps day two

I had an exciting busy day today!!

My family {grandparents, aunt & uncle, cousins} came into town today for our partial family reunion. They’ll only be here for a few days so we’re savoring every minute.

I had a photo shoot scheduled with a friend today, and my cousin Lev here has been getting into photography a ton lately {he’s so smart & picks things up so fast!} – so I invited him along to the shoot! He did an amazing job helping me pick spots and poses, and used reflectors to fill in the natural light while I was shooting. Can I fly him in from Israel for every single photo shoot please??

Plus, he takes really great photos himself – I can’t wait to see what he does with his natural creative talent.

day two

I have a billion & one photos to edit in the upcoming days, but today’s snap is of Lev when we were testing out the light at various locations!

#summersnaps – day one, 2017 edition!

Whee, I’m doing this again!

Last summer, I decided to take a photo with my camera every single day. And I just about did it! The hardest part was finding time to edit and upload them to the blog every single day, especially while traveling.

I loved it so much last year, and have decided to do it again this year! Of course, I sort of forgot it was summer, so it’s a little bit of a late start. But better July than never!

{I was trying to figure a way to differentiate last year’s posts from this year, so I’m doing the hashtag thing. Hopefully it’ll be clear enough!}

day one

My family is in town!!! They’re visiting for a few days for the 4th of July. I’ve got even more of my extended family arriving Sunday, which is wonderful. Yay family.

Aaaaaand a beautiful sunset on the drive back from Yellow Springs. Ah, summer.

See you tomorrow!

6 things I’ve been loving in June {+ updates}

Just like that, the year is halfway gone!

I feel like I blinked and missed June – it’s been a busy month full of working, reading, attempting to organize my life, and working some more. Oh, and did I mention working?

Yisrael’s Newborn Session

Lately I’ve been wanting to share my photos from some of my photo shoots, and I think I’m going to start making blog posts where I highlight a few of my favorite shots!

Well, let’s be honest – more than a few. I’m one of the most indecisive people ever!!

My good friend Dina, whose little one I had been doing monthly milestone photos with, wanted to get her friend Rochel the gift of newborn photos. This was mama’s sixth baby {amazing woman!}. Dina, being the sweetest person ever, wanted her to have something to memorialize this fleeting moment of tiny baby-ness, so she asked me if I’d like to help out. Of course I said yes!

This was only my second newborn shoot, and I’m not a pro at handling babies, so I was really excited {and nervous!} about the challenge. I don’t have a studio or really very many props – someday I’d like to invest a little more so that things don’t feel so DIY/thrown together. Someday! Dina is great at planning, and together we were able to pull together something wonderful.

9 books I’ll be reading this summer

Since I’ve started working in the children’s department of a library, summer reading is just about all that I can think about.

summer readingOf course, most of those thoughts are centered around children’s books and programming, so I thought it’d be a nice idea to give myself a break from the endless piles of picture books and focus on some picture-less books that are actually written for adults. Don’t get me wrong, I love children’s lit, but there are only so many repetitive rhymes and cartoonish illustrations that one can look at.

Being surrounded by all kinds of books has made my to-read list grow longer and longer every day, yet I’ve been struggling to give myself actual time during the day to chip away at that list.

If you follow me on Goodreads, you may notice that I’ve only been adding books to my Currently Reading section but not completing them for the past few weeks… whoops.

So, I thought it’d be a fun idea to get together a list of books I’ll be reading during the upcoming summer months, and that hopefully it can motivate me to cross them off my list. Follow me on Instagram, as I’ll be posting more updates on my progress there!

March madness & military life

March has been a wildly busy month – but I think I say that about every month!

It has been a month filled with learning, new projects, stepping out of my comfort zone, lots of coffee, family visits, & goodbyes to good friends.

Why you need to rent camera gear before you buy

I’m an amateur photographer right now, but more of my friends lately have been asking me to take photos for them – which I’m LOVING!

For a while I’ve felt that my camera bag is missing something, but I couldn’t figure it out. There are about a million + one options of cameras and lenses out there, and for someone who barely knows how to shoot in manual mode, the choices can be a little overwhelming.
